About HearthandHub

Technology shouldn’t feel intimidating

We make technology simple, safe, and genuinely useful — for seniors and the families who care about them.

Hi, I’m Gary

Founder & Editor, HearthandHub

HearthandHub grew out of something very personal — watching the people I care about struggle with technology that was supposed to make life easier.

Over the years, I’ve helped elderly family members and friends choose everything from their first smartphone to fall detection devices. I’ve seen first-hand how the right piece of technology can genuinely improve everyday life — and how the wrong one just ends up unused.

That experience taught me something important: most tech advice online isn’t written for seniors. It’s written for people who already understand technology.

It’s not written for someone’s 78-year-old mum who just wants to video call her family without pressing the wrong button.

HearthandHub is here to change that.

Why HearthandHub Exists

A few years ago, I spent an afternoon helping a family friend in her eighties set up a tablet so she could stay in touch with her daughter abroad.

What should have been simple turned into hours of confusion — tiny text, unclear menus, and features that made no sense to someone who hadn’t grown up with technology.

“She wasn’t confused because she wasn’t capable — she was confused because the product wasn’t designed with her in mind.”

That moment stuck with me.

She was sharp, curious, and willing to learn — she just needed the right device and clear, simple guidance.

From then on, I became the person friends and family turned to for advice on technology for elderly relatives.

HearthandHub is the resource I wish had existed back then.

Every guide is written the way I’d explain something over a cup of tea — simple, honest, and practical.
